Welcome to BellRanch2316, also known as Ellen’s Danes. We’ve had Great Danes in our home for 25 years. I cannot imagine having any other breed of dog as companions for myself or my children (all grown at this point). Our photo page represents every dog we have ever owned. All my dogs are house dogs and part of the family, so quantity is limited. I keep them until they pass on which also places limits on quantity and breeding. I’m not a kennel, but I do have puppies I sell once or twice a year. The price starts at $450 and may go up to $900 for a really well marked harlequin or something really unique and beautiful (the ones that don’t fit into any AKC category but stand out in a way that makes them extra special). I am always negotiable on price.
I include full AKC registration and a two year health guarantee with the asking price, but will withhold one or both to come down on the price under special circumstances. I don’t do a lot of advertising or post tons of pictures on my website. You just have to call me. Since I’m home by myself all the time, I welcome the conversation even if it is about a puppy or dog you bought from someone else. I also take in rescued Danes, but I don’t advertise that either. I just have a couple of shelters that call me, and I include a clause in my adoption agreement (You can click on it at the top to view It.) stating that I need to be called first if you can’t keep your puppy/dog for any reason. I don’t want my babies abandoned or in a shelter.
Great Danes are very calm and great with children. My son learned to walk holding onto the tail of my first Great Dane, Lizzie and teethed on her ears. By the time he was three, we not only had Lizzie but Bonnie and Clyde. They treated him like gold, and even the UPS man wouldn’t get out of his truck when the dogs were watching my son as he played outside. They use to stand at attention between his truck and my son and growl. By the time my daughter came along, we went from 10 acres to 300, and I pretty much let her run free with three great Danes in tow. They set the limits for her excursions not me (nowhere near the cattle or horses and not too close to the pond). As she got older, they gave her more freedom. I can’t help but smile and cry over the loss of each and every dog when my life and theirs is full of so many precious memories. I wished they lived longer. Mine usually live between 10 and 13 years. I’ve never actually had one reach their 13th birthday, but they have gotten close.
I must own and have read a dozen books on the breed of Great Dane, and I’ve dealt with just about every issue imaginable over the last 25 years. The Great Danes I get from the shelters always have problems that need to be dealt with before I can find them a home. Sometimes it’s a health problem and sometimes it’s a disposition problem, but with time and love they usually overcome both and can be placed.
